Job Description

The Quality Manager’s main responsibility is to develop, maintain and enhance all quality assurance activities that impact the business and its programs.

The Quality Manager is responsible for the co-ordination of all quality functions and company certifications including the Ottawa head office research, product development and manufacturing activities; maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) activities in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; the laboratories located in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland; and the US Military focused site in Huntsville, Alabama. This position requires travel between locations and be based out of the Ottawa, Ontario location.

The Quality Managers’ primary responsibilities will be to ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with Customer/Industry specified requirements, AS9100, ISO 9001, Transport Canada, and Department of National Defence. The Quality Manager will be required to ensure the integration of these requirements into the company’s quality program.

Key Area of Responsibilities:

  • Represents the company in all matters of Quality
  • Manages, organizes, plans and executes the overall quality operation to achieve business unit and company goals
  • Establishes measurable quality department operational objectives and assignments to support overall business unit plans and goals
  • Communicates with customers regarding quality issues and ensures that corrective actions are adopted and remain in place
  • Manages and updates the company Quality Management System manual
  • Responsible to ensure all Gastops certifications and quality requirements are maintained and continuous improvements are carried out for all locations of the company (4 sites)
  • Provides Quality Management System strategic direction for the company
  • Participates in/contributes to senior executive and leadership management forums
  • Provides regular updates and reports to senior management regarding the QMS, Quality metrics and the effectiveness of the system
  • Manages and coordinates company Quality Management System documentation,
  • Manages Company document system ensuring its definition, maintenance distribution and updating, coordinating with different company
  • Provides necessary assistance and technical expertise to other Company groups concerning matters of quality
  • Evaluates the Quality Systems of suppliers and sub-contractors during the pre-qualification phase
  • Liaises with the authorized Company Quality System certification bodies
  • Develops and maintains a robust internal quality audit program that promotes process ownership to ensure compliance with AS9100D and customer requirements per the Quality Management System and initiates any necessary corrective Writes detailed reports and provides out briefs to the senior management team
  • Trains all personnel about Quality System issues management and methodologies and implements the necessary training Programs for Quality personnel
  • Proposes preventive measures, promotes and implements continuous improvement programs
  • Initiates root cause analysis corrective actions, assesses response plan and conducts follow-up verifications
  • Creates and presents/communicates the annual management review
  • Participates in customer business reviews, proposals, RFI’s, contracts and agreements
  • Participates in technical investigations and provides recommendations
  • Participates in material review board activities

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other related sciences and/or a minimum of 10 years of quality related Engineering/Manufacturing experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience ideally in a QA Management Role within an Aerospace Engineering/Manufacturing environment, or equivalent in a comparable industry
  • Experience/training in lean, six-sigma, RCCA and continuous improvement principles
  • Must have training in internal and external auditing to AS9100
  • Resourceful, well organised, highly dependable, efficient and detail orientated
  • Confident and Assertive team player
  • Ability to use initiative and make decisions autonomously
  • Excellent communicator- verbal and written, ability to read and interpret technical requirements of a quality system or specification
  • Ability to take initiative and make decisions autonomously
  • Articulate, personable, well presented, have good listening skills, be able to communicate effectively and represent company both formally and informally with customers and senior management
  • Conversant and proficient with work order management systems, purchasing systems, and Microsoft Office software with an emphasis on MS Excel for data analysis
  • Knowledge of inventory and material control within an aerospace environment
  • Must have a sound working knowledge of AS9100 quality management systems
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Able to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program, US International Traffic in Arms Regulations and Canadian Government Security Clearance
